You offer group therapy but thinking about joining a group makes me nervous. Tell me more about group therapy, in general.
Group therapy is just as effective and sometimes even more effective than individual therapy –and it’s more affordable, too. Groups are a two-way street, in a way, because sometimes you will receive support and learn something from others and sometimes, unknowingly, you will be helping and supporting others. It’s normal to feel nervous; after all, you will be joining a group of strangers! But, it is the psychologist’s job to introduce everyone during the first session and help you feel comfortable in the group. You will likely be surprised by the end of the first group session when you realize that you are looking forward to the next group session.
