A mental health crisis or emergency is a life threatening situation in which a person:
Has engaged in self-injury (e.g., cutting, burning, poisoning themselves) that needs immediate medical attention
Is threatening imminent harm to self (e.g., acting on a suicide threat)
Is threatening imminent harm to others (e.g., homicidal or threatening behavior)
Is severely disoriented or out of touch with reality (e.g., severely impaired by alcohol or other drugs)
Has a severe inability to function (e.g., inability to care for themselves)
Is distraught and out of control (e.g., exhibiting highly erratic, unusual or unpredictable behavior)
